On Oct., 14, members of Nexen’s Corporate Community Investment Committee and HSE&SR department were alongside President and CEO Marvin Romanow in Calgary at the unveiling of the Nexen logo on STARS’ five BK117 helicopters.
The group toured the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) office and hanger located in north east Calgary near the city airport. After hearing about STARS’ programs, they visited the Emergency Link Communications Centre and learned about the organization’s critical care education programs.
STARS is a non-profit organization that provides airborne intensive care to critically injured or ill patients. Over the past eight years, Nexen’s corporate contributions to STARS have totaled $500,000.
“Nexen's long-standing partnership with the STARS Foundation is important because it serves not only our remote operations, but citizens in many Alberta communities,” says Marvin. “They support our approach to safety as it provides access to critical care and delivers safety programs and education throughout our province. We are very pleased to continue our support of STARS."
In addition to patient transport, the STARS program also includes emergency medical communications, education and research, fundraising and community partnerships. Since it began in 1985, STARS has flown more than 18,500 missions in Alberta and its surrounding provinces.
